The first experience that I had about women issues was a class that I took in the political science department called Women in Politics and film.I had never really question the differences that existed upon women in politics or in the field of law until I encounter my sophomore year in ASU by taking this class. The notion of women running for office was discussed as well and how they lack support but all of this change 3 years later when Sarah Palin and Hilary Clinton were running for office. When I found out these two women were running I found it very exciting. In the course material the notion of the glass ceiling was broken by Palin and Clinton. A theory or idea that I studied just a few years that seem far away from the future had been broken by these two women. The class portrayed how women started to get involved in politics and have evolved and as of now I am happy that not only women are breaking the barriers that have exited but by Palin and Clinton breaking this ceiling glass it only shows that as a society we are becoming a bit more accepting and women are being empowered to take even challenges that seemed to be impossible to conquer. Although our society is open to women achieving their maximum potential at times comments and the way we interrogate women’s abilities compared to men make it at times hard to believe that there is still a need of progress. Like comments done about Sotomayor before and after taking office. Her ability was question regardless of her extensive experience in law. Sotomayor has not been put up in pedestal and praised instead she is called too tough and bitchy because she can control her courtroom. Women should not have to be judge at all, instead we should look at their abilities.
